In order to learn as much as possible from this pilot study, the genetic diversity of different groups of organisms will be studied, as they present different challenges. In addition, we have selected species that are also being studied in the ongoing biodiversity monitoring or that are generally of great interest in species conservation.
The following five species were selected with the support of numerous experts from various institutions:
- Natterjack toad, Epidalea calamita
- Yellowhammer, Emberiza citrinella
- False heath fritillary, Melitaea diamina
- Carthusian pink, Dianthus carthusianorum
- Hare’s-tail cottongrass, Eriophorum vaginatum
